May 23 it can be done!Florida opens first Hydrogen filling station for fleet of buses Florida now has a fueling station to re-fuel the fleet of 8 smaller shuttles/buses it has purchased from Ford. interesting facts from the article: 1. they got a sweet deal--Ford sold the buses for $250K each (what a regular deisel bus costs) instead of the $1M actual cost (great PR and future development move by Ford. they really need to come out in front and win the next gen fuel space to stay alive) 2. these buses produce about 1% of the Carbon Dioxide of the Toyota Prius--the cleanest hybrid car out there. that is huge! 3. mileage is about the same: 5-10 miles per "gallon. not great, but still much cleaner. i've seen other studies stating that the cost per "gallon" of hydrogen is slightly higher than gasoline, so while not more cost efficient at this point, it is a step in the right direction (costs will come down as the infrastructure and technology continues to expand). 4. we are still a decade or two away from having an infrastructure that will allow for mass hydrogen cars. but we are getting closer http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18826056/
ddv May 19 Painting the houseone of the things we've wanted to do since we about the house (about 2 years ago) is to get it painted. the old colors were white with a very hideous teal trim. we finally saved up enough to get around to doing it.
and by doing it i mean hiring a company to come in an paint for us. after helping paint the house i grew up in a couple of times, i will never again paint the outside of a house!
the crew was here every day for close to 2 weeks. the first week was prepping (scraping, caulking, taping, etc) and then from Tuesday to Friday of this last week they painted.
we are very pleased with the way it turned out. and we love love LOVE our purple door!!! Quixotic Plum is the color (yup, i get to take credit for finding it!!). it looks great with the green of the house and is a nice accept that really "pops"
we got a new brushed nickel deadbolt and handle for the door (abi hates gold/brass). i thought i could install it myself, but quickly learned it was above my skill set. luckily i live next door to a master carpenter that is very friendly and he came to my rescue!
check out the photos of the new colors! enjoy--i know we sure do.
