    Roundel Overlays

I finally got my first "upgrades" for the bimmer today! I ordered some roundel overlays to convert the blue and white propeller of the BMW logo to black and white. the trunk, hood and wheels will all get converted.

I went out to the garage after dinner to get started while Abi did homework. I decided to start with the wheels since those were small and less conspicuous should I screw something up. Much to my dismay, I was sent the wrong size! In the catalog that I received with the overlays, it specifies that you should measure first because there are two different sizes. However, when I ordered them online (not having seen the catalog) I was asked up front to specify which BMW I owned so it would only show me applicable parts. Well, the online catalog didn't mention anything about sizes or measuring, they only had one entry for the wheels. The wheel overlays would have to go back.

After a brief discussion with Abi to determine if I should wait on the hood and trunk until the correct wheel sizes could arrive, we decided to press on. Another deep breath and I started on the trunk. It was fairly easy going and when I was done, the logo was black and white--a near perfect application on my part. :)

I went to start on the hood and realized that the engine was too hot from the drive home to work on it. So I did some putz'n in the yard and then broke out the California Duster to get the car a quick "bath". After 20 minutes or so I was confident the hood was cool enough to continue. Again the application was pretty quick and painless--another job well done.

The end result is pretty cool. Both the hood and the trunk look pretty snazzy and the whole car has a dark, mysterious persona--especially since the roundels are close to the smoked license plate covers (I guess the licesnse plate covers are technically my first upgrades....whoops!).

See the pictures below for the end result. I'll keep you posted as I get the wheels done and decide what I want to do next.

    Our new baby!

Yes, as you can see, I am the proud papa of one sweet ride. It is a 2003 BMW 325i. Jet black with black leather interior, brushed aluminum accents, and the sports package. I plan on slowly upgrading her and making her better and faster and cooler. Abi thinks I'm nuts (but no complaints from her as she gets to drive it to work 2 times a week!).

We've had her for just shy of two weeks!

This should keep me happy for a few months. :)
