January 18 Darin's new showerHello,
well "we" have successfully completed another portion of our never ending house remodel. my shower was the original stuff from 1975 and not in very good shape. the tiles and fiberglass were stained and yucky, the shower head was low (even for me!!), and some of the tiles were starting to get loose. So we decided to do a replacement with a new "fancy" shower insert that is designed (and patented) to not allow mold, bacteria or mildew to grow on the surface--making cleaning a snap and greatly increasing the life of the shower.
Abi scored the shower door from work and we had the shower guys install that as well. see the pictures for the project progression. :)

January 15 Finally put up Christmas picturesI finally got around to posting the pictures i took over the holidays. enjoy.
ddv January 07 my boss's last dayso most of you probably don't know (or care), but Bill Gates will be leaving Microsoft this summer to focus on his philanthropy full time. he will still be chairman of the board and will still be the richest man on the planet, but he'll have some free time on his hands.
January 04 Velinville: Part IIYesterday I posted a blog about the new cybercity i created called Velinville. So far 18 people have visited my fair lil town. Apparently that is all you can do. every person that comes to the site will increase the population by 1 (they can only increase it once per day). the graphic of my town grows by a house each time. I've check on some of the big cities that have 250,00+ inhabitants and it looks like any jumbo city. once Velinville gets big enough i have to worry about industry, crime, transportation, etc. apparently i worry about that by sending out a different url for people to click on. once they do that, it will "better" my economy or some such thing. but apparently visiting is the only thing anyone can do in Velinville. I guess they can also post on the message board, but big whoop. :) I'm a bit disappointed. while cool in concept, it appears this is nothing more than a way for the site owners to generate ad revenue (but the ad real estate is significantly small, so they aren't even maximizing their business!) While i applaud the effort of www.myminicity.com for creating something that looks cool and is free (with no login or sign in needed), i'm left with an empty taste in my mouth as i think, "is this it? i can see another house and that's it?!?" Oh well, i'll keep my eye on it for a few more days, but i'm not going to really try to "build" my fair town up any further. thanks to the 18 of you who helped me get this far. not all experiments yeild favorable results.... ddv January 03 Visit Velinville! So i stumbled across an interesting site today. you can name/create a virtual city. everytime somebody visits it, the population grows--adding industry, transportaion, revenue, and crime. Since you don't have to sign up or login to get started, i thought i'd explore a bit. so i created Velinville. I don't yet know if it is cool or worth while, so please take 2 seconds to click on the link and help my town grow. i'll see what happens after it grows and report back. thanks ddv |
